Black and White Family Photography in San Diego

A year ago, I met the most engaging woman at my daughter’s school. She is the type of woman who shines as a leader and a strong individual as soon as you meet her. She always introduces herself, and those around her, offering a complimentary tidbit about the person to spur conversation. Always welcoming, always warm, and she just radiates her joy and warmth to those around her. She’s been asking about my photography for a year, and really wanted me to create some great black and white images to coordinate with  the other black and white pictures she had displayed in her home. Her goal was to wait until their youngest was old enough to sit up and smile for photos. She waited patiently, and waited until I was offering my mini sessions. With those sessions, you don’t get quite the variety you do with a full session, but you still get some fantastic images. We started with the “posed” Christmas Card/Grandma shot, and then we moved on to capture some authentic moments. Relaxed, real, touching moments. It takes a while to warm up, but we got them. I got a touching picture of the three girls together, I got a nice family portrait, but there are two images from this shoot that just bring me so much happiness, her head shot, as every woman needs a lovely picture of them and the picture of her and her husband.

The three kids are sitting stage left. They were watching me take some photos of their parents together. (We all need those!) And I asked him to pull in for a kiss… The kids started heckling… This picture was taken right after that kiss. I could just feel the love between them and their kids. It was just one of those moments where love was so apparent that I could feel it. I know I use  a tag line a lot, but these kids will look at this image when they are adults, and know how much in love their parents are. This is why I am a photographer. “It is important. It’s legacy. It’s history. It’s a relationship. It’s love. ”

Her portrait, that I we made at the end of our session. She was so happy and relaxed, and we had such a good time. I just think she’s lovely inside and out, and this photo is a reflection of her beauty.

Ahh, What a lovely kind family. It was a great morning, full of adventure, and exploring, even in the short time we were together.
