I show you all a lot of my silhouette and my personal family photos, but today, I thought I’d share one from a family session I did 2 weeks ago.
Not every one of my photos is in silhouette… Thought you’d all like to see that during my family sessions, I do take other types of images! I even take the look at the camera and smile shots… This one just was who the family was. They were a lot of fun. You can see more on my #blog http://www.erikathornes.com/blog/ if you want to see more from the session.

My daughter giggled for about 20 minutes when I took a sharpie to her hand… But, it worked. She's learning to type. Shot with the Canon 40mm 2.8 pancake lens on the 5D Mark II. I Adore this lens.

I've had a good time playing with my new triggers. Far easier to use than the built in IR. Shot at the wedding on Sunday. It was such a great time. I'm having such fun editing this wedding!

It is very wet. It is far wetter than I ever remembered. I came up to Washington from San Diego on a vacation (backwards, right?), and I just forgot how wet western Washington was. It was fantastic to be away for a month, it was great for my girls to spend time with the grandparents, and it was wonderful catching up with old friends in the few days I was in Tacoma. I had 4 shoots crammed n the few days I was in town. Two family sessions, a newborn and a maternity, (And not the same person!) Anyway, because I was on such a tight schedule, as well as my old friends being on a tight schedule, we ended up having a family photography session during a thunderstorm, at 8 in the morning. No chance to reschedule, so well, we went with it! Something about the wet, the love, the symmetry and the love these parents have for their son made this my favorite image from the session. You can see more images from this session http://gallery.erikathornes.com/ <- here, if you want. #blog
Sooo happy to be home!

While I normally do shoot family portraits in San Diego, I'm up visiting family and friends in Washington. An old friend from high school contacted me and wanted family photos of them with their two year old son. They had not had photos taken since he was a baby. It was a wonderful day, well, it was wonderful to see them. The weather, however, was quite wet. Wetter than normal Washington wet. Between the downpours and thunder, we were able to sneak under this glass bridge by the Museum of Glass in Tacoma, WA http://www.museumofglass.org, and shoot some fun shots. #blog

Today my parents took the girls and I down to the Tacoma waterfront to be tourists around the Museum of Glass. It is such a great place for kids to run and play. My girls, well, they've got eccentric taste in portrait work, and I love to run with it. As they are children of a photographer, I only shoot them when they ask. I try to never make them sit for a photo, as it isn't something that should be forced. My girls are quirky and fun, and really enjoy doing things a bit different. I adore them, and have a great time shooting their childhood. And, for +Arno Jenkins and +Brian Bonham I raise your Portland sunsets and give you cute girls and glass… (+Mike Spinak likes to say I stack the deck with my kids… I might… I might….) #blog

Yes. She was. And She's awesome. Rocking her grandmother's wedding dress, feeding goats. I've been so blessed with the BEST couples. I can say right now that I LOVE shooting weddings. Maybe it is the couples I'm getting, maybe it is the fact that I love shooting joy. Regardless, a bride feeding goats her bouquet before the ceremony in her Grandmother's wedding dress just is so much fun. Yeah for fun brides and fantastic weddings that I get to be a part of. #blog More photos can be seen here (if you really want to look)… http://smu.gs/NzpOKc

I keep coming back to this photo. This is my favorite photo from the wedding I shot in Julian, CA. I have never met a couple quite like this one, and just the way they live their life, the way they carry themselves, they way they just find joy is one of the best things I've ever seen. Every one of his goofy faces throughout the day was 100% genuine emotion. The wiping of tears during the ceremony, the goofing off with his groomsmen, the overall joy and spunk and love this couple had was a remarkable thing to witness, and it was so great to capture these moments for them. I LOVE THIS PHOTO #blog
